Brownie Base

Optional Toppings

Method

Preparing the Brownie Base

  1. 1

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a medium saucepan, melt the dark chocolate and butter over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

  2. 2

    Mix Sugars and Eggs

In a large bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and brown sugar. Add the large eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the melted chocolate and butter mixture into the egg and sugar mixture, stirring until fully combined.

  4. 4

    Add Dry Ingredients

Sift together the all-purpose flour, espresso powder, and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the chocolate mixture until just combined.

Baking the Brownies

  1. 5

    Prepare the Baking Pan

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8 inch (20x20 cm) baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.

  2. 6

    Pour and Bake

Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. If desired, sprinkle the dark chocolate chips and chopped walnuts on top. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

  3. 7

    Cool and Serve

Remove the brownies from the oven and let them cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Use the parchment overhang to lift them out of the pan and let them cool completely on a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired.
