Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese Sticks

Freeze the mozzarella sticks for at least 30 minutes to prevent them from melting too quickly while frying.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

Prepare three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with bread crumbs mixed with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Bread the Cheese Sticks

Dip each frozen mozzarella stick first in the flour, then in the egg, and finally coat it with the bread crumb mixture. Ensure they are well-coated.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Mozzarella Sticks

Carefully add the breaded mozzarella sticks in batches to the hot oil. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the fried mozzarella sticks warm with marinara sauce on the side.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 7

    Heat Olive Oil

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 8

    Sauté Garlic

Add minced garlic to the pan and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant.

  3. 9

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer.

  4. 10

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  5. 11

    Finish with Fresh Basil

Add the chopped fresh basil just before serving.
