Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm milk (110°F), active dry yeast, and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, remaining granulated sugar, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, melt the unsalted butter and let it cool slightly. Then, add the eggs and the yeast mixture to the melted butter and whisk until combined.

  4. 4

    Make Dough

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.

  5. 5

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Coating & Assembly

  1. 6

    Prepare Coating

In a bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon for the coating.

  2. 7

    Shape Dough Balls

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into small pieces (about 1 inch each). Roll each piece into a ball.

  3. 8

    Coat Dough Balls

Melt 1 cup of unsalted butter in a bowl. Dip each dough ball into melted butter, then roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture until well coated.

  4. 9

    Layer in Pan

Grease a bundt pan and layer the coated dough balls in it, stacking them as you go.

  5. 10

    Second Rise

Cover the bundt pan with a cloth and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffed up.

  6. 11

    Bake Monkey Bread

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the monkey bread for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.

  7. 12

    Cool and Serve

Let the monkey bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before inverting onto a serving platter. Serve warm, pulling apart the pieces.
