For the Grits

Method

For the Grits

  1. 1

    Cook the Grits

In a medium saucepan, bring the water and salt to a boil. Gradually whisk in the grits, reduce the heat to low, and cover. Let it simmer for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the grits are thick and creamy.

  2. 2

    Add Cheese and Butter

Once the grits are cooked, stir in the butter and shredded cheddar cheese. Mix until the cheese is melted and fully incorporated. Keep warm until ready to serve.

For the Shrimp

  1. 3

    Prepare the Shrimp

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. 4

    Cook the Shrimp

Add the shrimp to the skillet, sprinkle with paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until the shrimp are pink and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

For the Creole Sauce

  1. 5

    Make the Sauce

In the same skillet used for the shrimp, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion, bell pepper, and celery. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are soft.

  2. 6

    Add Remaining Sauce Ingredients

Stir in the tomato paste, diced tomatoes, chicken broth, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

  3. 7

    Finish the Sauce

Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and stir to combine. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through. Stir in the chopped parsley before serving.
