Method
Cake Preparation
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing well after each addition.
Add Boiling Water
Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is well combined. The batter will be thin.
Bake the Cake
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool the Cake
Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Assembling the Sundae
Warm the Cake
Once the cake has cooled, cut a slice of the devil's food cake and place it on a serving plate. Warm it in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds.
Add Ice Cream
Place two generous scoops of vanilla ice cream on top of the warm cake slice.
Drizzle with Chocolate Syrup
Drizzle chocolate syrup generously over the ice cream and cake.
Top with Whipped Cream
Add a dollop of whipped cream on top of the ice cream.
Finish with a Cherry
Garnish with a maraschino cherry on top of the whipped cream.
