Method
Waffles
Prepare the Waffle Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. In another bowl, whisk together milk, egg, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Preheat the Waffle Maker
Preheat your waffle maker according to the manufacturer's instructions. Lightly grease the waffle plates with non-stick cooking spray or a little bit of oil.
Cook the Waffles
Pour enough batter into the waffle maker to cover the surface, close the lid, and cook until the waffles are golden brown and crisp, usually about 3-5 minutes. Remove the waffles and keep them warm while you repeat with the remaining batter.
Assembly
Assemble the Sundae
Place one warm waffle on a serving plate. Add one scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of the waffle, then place the second waffle on top of the ice cream. Drizzle caramel syrup generously over the top.
Add the Finishing Touches
Top the sundae with a generous dollop of whipped cream and place a maraschino cherry on top. Serve immediately while the waffles are warm.
