Preparing the Mousse

Melt the Chocolate
In a heatproof bowl, combine the dark chocolate and butter. Melt them together over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method) until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Combine Mixtures
Once the chocolate mixture has cooled slightly, fold it into the egg yolk mixture until well combined.

Chill the Mousse
Pour the mousse into individual serving dishes or one large bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until set.
Making the Whipped Cream

Whip the Cream
In a mixing bowl, pour the heavy cream. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Using an electric mixer, whip the cream until soft peaks form.

Serve
Once the mousse is set, top each serving with a dollop of whipped cream. Optionally, garnish with chocolate shavings or berries.
