Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four ramekins with butter and dust with cocoa powder or flour to prevent sticking.

  2. 2

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a heatproof bowl, combine the unsalted butter and semisweet chocolate. Melt them together in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until smooth.

  3. 3

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, egg yolks, and granulated sugar until well combined. Add the melted chocolate mixture and vanilla extract, and mix until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Dry Ingredients

Sift together the flour and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  5. 5

    Fill Ramekins

Evenly divide the batter among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Place the ramekins on a baking tray and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.

  7. 7

    Cool and Serve

Remove the ramekins from the oven and let them cool for 1 minute. Carefully invert each ramekin onto a dessert plate. Dust with powdered sugar and serve immediately with vanilla ice cream.
