Method

Preparing the Oatmeal

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a medium-sized pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Add Steel Cut Oats

Once the water is boiling, add 1 cup of steel cut oats and 1 tsp of salt to the pot.

  3. 3

    Simmer the Oats

Reduce the heat to medium-low and let the oats simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 20-30 minutes or until they reach your desired consistency. If you prefer creamier oats, you can cook them longer.

  4. 4

    Remove from Heat

Once the oats are cooked to your liking, remove the pot from heat and let it sit for a few minutes to thicken.

Serving the Oatmeal

  1. 5

    Prepare Toppings

While the oatmeal is thickening, prepare your toppings. Measure out 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1 cup of milk, and 1 cup of raisins.

  2. 6

    Serve Oatmeal

Spoon the cooked oatmeal into bowls. Add a splash of milk, and top with brown sugar and raisins according to your taste.

  3. 7

    Enjoy

Mix the toppings into the oatmeal if desired and enjoy your creamy bowl of steel cut oatmeal!
