Preparing the Patties

Mix the Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined.

Form the Patties
Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into burger patties, about 3/4 inch thick.

Chill the Patties
Place the patties on a plate and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up.

Cook the Patties
Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. Add cheese slices on top during the last minute of cooking to melt.
Assembling the Burger

Prepare the Vegetables
Wash and dry the lettuce. Slice the tomato and onion into thin rounds.

Toast the Buns
Optional: Lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

Build the Burger
On the bottom half of each bun, layer lettuce, the cooked patty with melted cheese, tomato slices, onion slices, and your preferred condiments. Top with the other half of the bun.
