Method

Preparing the Patty

  1. 1

    Make the Burger Patty

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Patty

Shape the mixture into a round patty, about 1 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center to prevent puffing during cooking.

Cooking the Burger

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Pan

Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patty

Place the patty on the grill or skillet. Cook for approximately 3-4 minutes on one side.

  3. 5

    Add Cheese

Flip the patty, and place the slice of American cheese on top. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the burger reaches desired doneness.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 6

    Prepare the Bun

While the burger is cooking, slice the burger bun in half and toast lightly if desired.

  2. 7

    Add Condiments and Toppings

Spread the mayonnaise on the bottom half of the bun. Layer the lettuce, followed by the cooked burger patty with melted cheese, tomato slice, onion rings, and pickles.

  3. 8

    Finish Assembly

Top with the other half of the bun, press down gently, and your classic hamburger is ready to serve.
