Preparing the Patty

Make the Burger Patty
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.

Form the Patty
Shape the mixture into a round patty, about 1 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center to prevent puffing during cooking.

Add Cheese
Flip the patty, and place the slice of American cheese on top. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the burger reaches desired doneness.
Assembling the Burger

Prepare the Bun
While the burger is cooking, slice the burger bun in half and toast lightly if desired.

Add Condiments and Toppings
Spread the mayonnaise on the bottom half of the bun. Layer the lettuce, followed by the cooked burger patty with melted cheese, tomato slice, onion rings, and pickles.

Finish Assembly
Top with the other half of the bun, press down gently, and your classic hamburger is ready to serve.
