Potatoes

Oil for Frying

Method

Preparation of Potatoes

  1. 1

    Wash and Cut Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cold water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with a clean towel. Cut each potato into even strips about 1/4 inch thick to ensure uniform cooking.

  2. 2

    Soak Potatoes

Place the cut potato strips into a large bowl and cover them with cold water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch, which will help achieve crispiness.

Frying Process

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, pour in the vegetable oil and heat it to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to accurately monitor the temperature.

  2. 4

    Drain and Dry Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potato strips and spread them out on a clean kitchen towel or paper towels. Pat them dry thoroughly to remove excess moisture, which can cause the oil to splatter.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of the dried potato strips into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry them for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.

Seasoning

  1. 6

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot and freshly fried, sprinkle them with salt, garlic powder, paprika, and black pepper. Toss gently to ensure even distribution of the seasoning.
