Meatballs

Method

Meatballs

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. 2

    Mix Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.

  3. 3

    Form Meatballs

Shape the mixture into 12-16 meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter.

  4. 4

    Bake Meatballs

Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through.

Sauce

  1. 5

    Sauté Onion

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.

  2. 6

    Add Garlic

Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

  3. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Stir in canned tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, sugar, salt, black pepper, basil, and oregano. Bring the sauce to a simmer.

  4. 8

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce heat and let the sauce simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Assembly

  1. 9

    Combine Meatballs and Sauce

Once the meatballs are done baking, add them to the simmering sauce and cook for an additional 5 minutes.

  2. 10

    Prepare Sub Rolls

Slice the sub rolls lengthwise without cutting all the way through.

  3. 11

    Assemble Subs

Place a few meatballs on each sub roll, spoon some sauce over the top, and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese.

  4. 12

    Melt Cheese

Place the assembled subs on a baking sheet and broil in the oven for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  5. 13

    Garnish and Serve

Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh basil, and serve hot.
