Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel Potatoes

Start by washing the Russet potatoes under cold running water to remove any dirt. Peel the potatoes using a vegetable peeler.

  2. 2

    Cut Potatoes into Fries

Cut the peeled potatoes into even strips approximately 1/4 inch thick to ensure they cook evenly.

  3. 3

    Soak the Fries

Place the cut fries into a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This removes excess starch and helps achieve crispiness.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep fryer or a large heavy-bottomed pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  2. 5

    Dry the Fries

After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  3. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of the dried fries to the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Remove and Drain

Use a slotted spoon to remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

  5. 8

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt and ground black pepper to taste. Toss gently to coat.
