Beans

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Soak the Beans

Rinse the dried beans under cold water to remove any dirt or debris. In a large bowl, cover the beans with enough water to submerge them completely and allow them to soak for at least 6 hours or overnight.

  2. 2

    Drain and Rinse

Once soaked, drain the beans and rinse them under cold water again to ensure they are clean.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Cook the Beans

In a large pot, add the drained beans and 4 cups of fresh water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 1-1.5 hours or until the beans are tender. Make sure to check occasionally and add more water if necessary to keep the beans covered.

  2. 4

    Sauté Aromatics

In a separate skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 5-7 minutes until translucent. Stir in the minced garlic and cumin powder and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 5

    Combine and Season

Once the beans are tender, drain any excess water and add the sautéed onion and garlic mixture to the pot with the beans. Stir to combine and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Allow the mixture to simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes to meld the flavors.

Serving

  1. 6

    Garnish and Serve

Remove the pot from heat. Serve the beans warm, garnished with fresh chopped cilantro on top. Enjoy your Beans of the Day!
