Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let it Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.

Topping Preparation

  1. 5

    Prepare the Tomato Sauce

If using store-bought tomato sauce, you can heat it slightly and season with salt to taste. If homemade, prepare your favorite tomato sauce recipe.

  2. 6

    Slice the Mozzarella

Slice the fresh mozzarella into thin rounds and set aside.

  3. 7

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) or as high as it will go to achieve a crispy crust.

Assembly and Baking

  1. 8

    Shape the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a round shape or stretch it by hand to your desired thickness.

  2. 9

    Add Sauce and Toppings

Transfer the shaped dough to a pizza stone or baking sheet. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a little space around the edges. Arrange the mozzarella slices on top and sprinkle with fresh basil leaves.

  3. 10

    Bake the Pizza

Drizzle a little olive oil over the top and bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.

  4. 11

    Serve

Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a minute, and slice it into wedges. Serve hot and enjoy your Margherita pizza!
