Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F). Grease four ramekins with butter and dust with flour to prevent sticking.

  2. 2

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a heatproof bowl, combine the dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Melt them together over a pot of simmering water, stirring occasionally until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

  3. 3

    Mix Sugar and Eggs

In a separate bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, large eggs, and egg yolks until the mixture is pale and slightly frothy.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Slowly pour the melted chocolate and butter mixture into the egg mixture, stirring constantly to combine.

  5. 5

    Add Dry Ingredients

Sift in the all-purpose flour and add a pinch of salt and vanilla extract. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.

Baking

  1. 6

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

  2. 7

    Bake

Place the ramekins in the preheated oven and bake for about 12-14 minutes. The edges should be firm while the center remains soft and slightly jiggly.

  3. 8

    Cool Slightly

Remove the ramekins from the oven and let them cool for about 1 minute.

Serving

  1. 9

    Plate the Cake

Carefully run a knife around the edges of each ramekin to loosen the cake. Invert each ramekin onto a plate, allowing the cake to release.

  2. 10

    Garnish

Dust the tops with powdered sugar and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.
