Preparing the Burger Patties

Season the Beef
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Form Patties
Divide the seasoned beef into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up while cooking.

Preparing the Chipotle Mayo

Mix the Chipotle Mayo
In a small bowl, combine the chipotle mayonnaise with a bit of the canned mild green chilies to taste. Mix until well incorporated.
Assembling the Burger

Prepare the Buns
Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until lightly golden.

Layer the Ingredients
On the bottom half of each bun, place a layer of lettuce, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese, a spoonful of the mild green chilies, a slice of tomato, and onion. Spread a generous amount of chipotle mayo on the top half of the bun.
