Cheese Sticks

Method

Cheese Sticks Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese

Cut the whole milk mozzarella cheese into 8 equal wedges. Pat them dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In three separate shallow bowls, set up your breading station: one with all-purpose flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mixture of Italian bread crumbs, grated Romano cheese, dried oregano, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Bread the Cheese Sticks

Dredge each mozzarella wedge first in the flour, then dip in the beaten eggs, and finally coat in the bread crumb mixture. Ensure each piece is fully coated. Place coated cheese sticks on a plate.

  4. 4

    Chill the Cheese Sticks

Once all cheese sticks are breaded, chill them in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to help the coating adhere.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 5

    Cook the Marinara Sauce

In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic cloves and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 6

    Simmer the Sauce

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and bring to a gentle simmer. Cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. If desired, add fresh basil towards the end for additional flavor.

Frying Cheese Sticks

  1. 7

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering. You can test the oil by dropping a small piece of breading into it; if it sizzles, it's ready.

  2. 8

    Fry the Cheese Sticks

Carefully add the chilled cheese sticks to the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side. Use a slotted spoon to remove the cheese sticks and drain on paper towels.

Serving

  1. 9

    Serve

Serve the fried mozzarella sticks hot with the marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
