Cooking Instructions
- 1
Rinse the Rice
Place the basmati rice in a fine mesh strainer and rinse under cold running water. Rinse until the water runs clear to remove excess starch, about 2-3 minutes.
- 2
Soak the Rice (optional)
For better texture, soak the rinsed rice in a bowl of water for 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- 3
Boil Water
In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil over high heat. Add 0.5 tsp of salt to the boiling water.
- 4
Add Rice
Once the water is boiling, add the rinsed (and soaked, if applicable) basmati rice to the pot. Stir briefly to prevent sticking.
- 5
Simmer Rice
Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid, and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes. Do not lift the lid during cooking.
- 6
Fluff the Rice
After 15-20 minutes, turn off the heat and let the rice sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes. Then, remove the lid and fluff the rice with a fork.
- 7
Add Butter or Oil (optional)
If desired, stir in 1 tablespoon of butter or oil for added flavor and richness.
