Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt. Gradually add water and mix until a dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Add a little oil or ghee while kneading to keep it moist.

  3. 3

    Rest the Dough

Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes. This helps in gluten development.

Layering and Cooking

  1. 4

    Divide the Dough

After resting, divide the dough into equal-sized balls (about the size of a golf ball).

  2. 5

    Roll Out the Dough

Take one ball of dough and flatten it with your fingers. Use a rolling pin to roll it out into a thin circle, about 6 inches in diameter.

  3. 6

    Layer with Oil

Spread about 1 tablespoon of oil or ghee evenly on the rolled-out dough. Fold it into a semi-circle, and then fold again to form a triangle. This will create layers.

  4. 7

    Roll Again

Roll out the triangular dough again gently to about 8 inches in size.

  5. 8

    Cook the Paratha

Heat a skillet or tawa over medium heat. Place the rolled paratha onto the skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes on one side until golden brown. Flip it over and cook the other side, adding a little oil or ghee if desired.

  6. 9

    Serve

Once both sides are cooked, remove the paratha from the skillet. Keep warm in a towel until ready to serve. Repeat with the remaining dough balls.
