Dough Preparation

Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (1 cup), sugar (1 tsp), and active dry yeast (2 tsp). Stir gently and let it sit for about 10 minutes, until foamy.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour (3 cups) and salt (1 tsp).

Knead the Dough
Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.

Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C) or heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.

Shape the Naan
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then flatten into an oval or circle about 1/4 inch thick.

Cook the Naan
If using an oven, place the naan on a baking sheet and bake for 3-5 minutes or until puffed and golden. If using a skillet, cook each naan for about 2-3 minutes on each side until browned and puffed.

Serve Warm
Serve the naan warm with your favorite dishes or dips.
