Preparation of Rice
- 1
Rinse the Rice
Begin by rinsing 1 cup of basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and helps achieve fluffy rice.
- 2
Soak the Rice
After rinsing, soak the rice in water for about 30 minutes. This helps in even cooking.
Cooking
- 3
Heat the Ghee or Oil
In a medium-sized pot, heat 1 tablespoon of ghee or oil over medium heat.
- 4
Add Spices
Once the ghee is hot, add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds, 1 bay leaf, 2 whole cloves, and 2 green cardamom pods. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- 5
Add Water and Salt
Pour in 2 cups of water and add 1 teaspoon of salt. Stir well and bring to a boil.
- 6
Add Soaked Rice
Once the water is boiling, drain the soaked rice and add it to the pot. Stir gently to combine.
- 7
Cook the Rice
Cover the pot with a lid, reduce the heat to low, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is fully cooked and the water is absorbed.
- 8
Fluff the Rice
Once cooked, turn off the heat and let the rice sit covered for an additional 5 minutes. Then, fluff the rice gently with a fork.
