For Frying
Method
Preparing the Gulab Jamun Dough
- 1
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, combine milk powder, all-purpose flour, baking soda, and cardamom powder. Mix well until evenly combined.
- 2
Add Wet Ingredients
Add ghee and milk to the dry ingredients. Mix gently to form a soft dough. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour.
- 3
Rest the Dough
Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes.
Making Sugar Syrup
- 4
- 5
Add Rose Water
Remove the syrup from heat and stir in the rose water. Set aside to cool slightly.
Frying and Dipping
- 6
Heat Oil
In a deep frying pan, heat ghee or vegetable oil over medium heat until hot but not smoking.
- 7
Shape the Dough
Grease your hands with ghee and take small portions of the dough. Roll them into smooth balls, about the size of a marble.
- 8
Fry the Gulab Jamuns
Carefully drop the balls into the hot oil. Fry them in batches, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown (about 5-7 minutes).
- 9
Soak in Sugar Syrup
Once fried, remove the gulab jamuns using a slotted spoon and immediately place them in the warm sugar syrup. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes before serving.
