Method
For the Buttermilk Fried Chicken
- 1
Marinate the Chicken
In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Add the chicken thighs, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
- 2
Prepare the Coating
In a separate bowl, mix the all-purpose flour with a pinch of salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Dredge the Chicken
Remove the chicken from the buttermilk and allow the excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the seasoned flour, pressing gently to adhere the coating.
- 5
Fry the Chicken
Carefully place the coated chicken in the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary. Cook for about 6-8 minutes per side, or until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 74°C).
- 6
Drain the Chicken
Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oil and place it on a wire rack or paper towels to drain excess oil.
For the Bacon
- 7
Cook the Bacon
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Tenderbelly® bacon slices until crispy, about 6-8 minutes. Remove and let drain on paper towels.
For the Honey Butter
- 8
Make the Honey Butter
In a small bowl, mix the softened unsalted butter with honey until well combined. Set aside.
For Assembly
- 9
Assemble the Dish
On a serving plate, place a piece of buttermilk fried chicken, top it with slices of crispy bacon, a generous dollop of honey butter, and drizzle with maple syrup. Serve immediately.
