Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cucumbers

Wash the cucumbers thoroughly and slice them into spears or rounds, depending on your preference. Place them in a large bowl.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Onion and Garlic

Peel and thinly slice the red onion and garlic cloves. Add them to the bowl with the cucumbers.

Brine

  1. 3

    Mix the Brine

In a saucepan, combine the water, white vinegar, salt, sugar, mustard seeds, black peppercorns, and red pepper flakes. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the salt and sugar have dissolved.

  2. 4

    Cool the Brine

Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the brine to cool to room temperature.

Pickling

  1. 5

    Combine and Store

Once the brine has cooled, pour it over the cucumbers, garlic, and onions in the bowl. Add the fresh dill on top. Make sure the vegetables are completely submerged in the brine. If necessary, place a weight on top to keep them submerged.

  2. 6

    Seal and Refrigerate

Transfer the contents to clean glass jars and seal them tightly. Refrigerate for at least 24 hours before consuming to allow the flavors to meld.
