Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- 2
Cut in Butter
Add the unsalted butter (1 cup), and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- 3
Add Wet Ingredients
Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk and the egg. Stir just until combined and the dough forms a ball.
Filling Preparation
- 4
Prepare Filling
In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and ground cinnamon. Melt the unsalted butter (1 cup) and set aside.
- 5
Roll Out Dough
On a floured surface, roll the dough out into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
- 6
Rolling and Baking
- 7
Roll the Dough
Starting from one long edge, carefully roll the dough into a tight log. Pinch the seam to seal.
- 8
Slice the Roll
Using a sharp knife, slice the roll into 12 equal pieces, about 1.5 inches wide.
- 9
Bake
Place the slices in a greased baking dish and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
Frosting Preparation
- 10
Make Frosting
In a medium bowl, beat together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth and creamy.
- 11
Frost Rolls
Once the cinnamon rolls are out of the oven and slightly cooled, spread the cream cheese frosting generously over the top.
