Method

Prepare Casserole

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 2

    Cube the Bread

Cut the sourdough bread into 1-inch cubes and place them in a large mixing bowl.

  3. 3

    Make the Custard

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Ingredients

Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes and stir gently to combine, ensuring all bread is coated.

  5. 5

    Add Cream Cheese

Cut the cream cheese into small cubes and fold them into the bread mixture. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes to soak.

  6. 6

    Transfer to Baking Dish

Transfer the mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.

Prepare Stewed Berries

  1. 7

    Cook the Berries

In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the mixed berries, granulated sugar, and lemon juice. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the berries are soft and syrupy, about 5-7 minutes.

Bake the Casserole

  1. 8

    Bake

Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.

  2. 9

    Serve

Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before serving. Top each serving with the stewed berries, whipped cream, and maple syrup to taste.
