Darryl's Signature Lasagna Recipe

Time1h 30m
Serves8

Our family recipe is rich and decadent, with layers of meat sauce, marinara, ricotta, provolone and mozzarella cheeses. We would not have put our name on this recipe if we didn't absolutely love it. Served with garlic and Parmesan toast.

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meat Sauce

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef and pork, cook until browned. Drain excess fat. Stir in marinara sauce, season with salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning. Simmer for 20 minutes.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Ricotta Mixture

In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, half of the grated Parmesan cheese, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Cook the Lasagna Noodles

Boil lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Lasagna

In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Place 4 noodles over sauce, then spread half of the ricotta mixture, followed by a layer of provolone slices, and a layer of mozzarella. Repeat layers, finishing with noodles topped with remaining meat sauce and mozzarella.

  5. 5

    Bake the Lasagna

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until cheese is bubbly and golden.

  6. 6

    Prepare Garlic Toast

While the lasagna is baking, preheat a skillet over medium heat. Melt butter and add minced garlic. Brush garlic butter onto sliced bread. Toast in the skillet until golden brown, then sprinkle with remaining Parmesan cheese.

  7. 7

    Serve

Once the lasagna is done baking, let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve hot with garlic and Parmesan toast.
