Method
Bread Preparation
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.
Knead the Dough
Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Assembly
Prepare the Filling
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.
Add Gruyère and Prosciutto
Sprinkle the grated Gruyère cheese evenly over the dough, followed by layers of prosciutto.
Roll the Dough
Starting from one long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seams to seal.
Second Rise
Place the rolled dough seam side down in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
Baking
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Bake the Bread
Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
Smoked Butter Preparation
Make Smoked Butter
In a medium bowl, combine softened unsalted butter, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and salt to taste. Mix until well blended.
Serve
Spread the smoked butter on warm slices of the bread as you serve.
