Method

Beer

  1. 1

    Chill beer

Ensure the New Castle is well chilled. Ideally refrigerate for at least 2–3 hours to reach serving temperature (~38–45°F / 3–7°C). If using a bottle straight from a warmer environment, place in an ice bath for 10–15 minutes.

  2. 2

    Prepare glass (optional)

If you prefer beer served in a glass, use a large pint glass chilled in the freezer for 10–15 minutes or rinse with cold water and fill briefly with ice, then discard the ice just before pouring. Avoid a frosted glass that encourages excessive foaming; a clean, slightly chilled glass is ideal.

  3. 3

    Open and pour (bottle)

Hold the bottle upright and open with a bottle opener. Tilt the chilled pint glass to about 45 degrees and pour the beer gently down the side until the glass is about three-quarters full. Straighten the glass and pour down the middle to create a 1/2–1 inch (1–2 cm) head of foam.

  4. 4

    Serve draft (if draft available)

If serving from a tap, rinse the tap briefly with beer to clear any residue. Hold the glass at 45 degrees and pull the tap handle smoothly. After filling to three-quarters, straighten the glass and finish with a short pour to achieve a 1/2–1 inch head.

  5. 5

    Garnish (optional)

New Castle is typically served without garnish, but if desired, offer a lemon wedge on the side. Do not squeeze lemon into the beer unless the guest requests it.

  6. 6

    Presentation and tasting notes

Serve immediately while cold. New Castle is a medium-bodied English-style brown ale/amber beer with malt-forward flavors, slight caramel, and mild hop bitterness. Encourage sipping to appreciate malt complexity and carbonation level.
