Preparing the Patty

Season the Beef
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently to combine without overworking the meat.

Form the Patty
Divide the seasoned beef into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about ½ inch thick.

Peel and slice the onion thinly.

Combine Sauce Ingredients
In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth.
Assembling the Patty Melt

Butter the Bread
Butter one side of each slice of sourdough bread.

Build the Sandwich
On the unbuttered side of two slices of bread, spread a layer of the DE sauce, place the cooked patty with melted cheese, add a generous portion of caramelized onions, and top with another slice of unbuttered bread.

Once grilled, remove from skillet, slice in half, and serve immediately with additional DE sauce on the side if desired.
