Method

Preparation of Base

  1. 1

    Cook the Fries or Tots

Preheat your oven or deep fryer according to the package instructions for the frozen fries or tater tots. If using an oven, spread the fries or tots evenly on a baking sheet. If using a deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 180°C (350°F).

  2. 2

    Fry or Bake

Fry or bake the fries/tots until they are golden brown and crispy, usually about 20-25 minutes in the oven, or 3-4 minutes in the fryer. Remove them from the oil or oven and drain on paper towels.

Cheesy Sauce Preparation

  1. 3

    Make the Cheese Sauce

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the shredded cheddar cheese, cream cheese, and milk. Stir frequently until all ingredients are melted and well combined into a smooth sauce.

Bacon Preparation (if using)

  1. 4

    Cook the Bacon

While the cheese sauce is cooking, in a separate pan, cook the bacon strips over medium heat until crispy. Remove from heat and chop into small pieces.

Assembly

  1. 5

    Combine and Serve

In a large serving bowl or platter, place the cooked fries or tots. Drizzle the cheese sauce generously over the top. If using bacon, sprinkle the chopped bacon pieces on top. Season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste. Serve immediately.
