Preparation of Cake Base

Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugar
In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Add Eggs and Vanilla
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.

Bake the Cake
Pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish and spread evenly. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Poke Holes in Cake
Once the cake is done and cooled for about 10 minutes, poke holes all over the top using a fork.

Soak the Cake
Slowly pour the milk mixture over the cake, allowing it to soak in. Let it sit for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.

Prepare the Topping
In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.

Top the Cake
Spread the whipped cream over the soaked cake evenly. Sprinkle with cinnamon if desired.

Slice and serve the Tarta de Tres Leches chilled or at room temperature.
