Dough Preparation
- 1
Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Cut in the unsalted butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 2
Add the Egg and Water
Add the egg and cold water to the flour mixture. Mix until the dough comes together. If the dough is too dry, add an additional tablespoon of cold water until it forms a smooth ball.
- 3
Chill the Dough
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to make it easier to roll out.
Filling Preparation

Empanada Assembly
- 7
Roll Out the Dough
Once the dough is chilled, take it out of the fridge. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/8 inch thick.
- 8
Cut Circles
Use a round cutter or a glass to cut out circles of dough, about 4-5 inches in diameter.
- 9
Fill and Seal
Place a tablespoon of the cooled filling in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges together to seal, and use a fork to crimp the edges for extra security.

Baking
- 11
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- 12
Bake the Empanadas
Place the empanadas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
