Oil and Seasoning

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Cut the Potatoes

Rinse the Russet potatoes thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt. Using a sharp knife, cut the potatoes into thin strips, approximately 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potato strips in a large bowl of cold water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch, which will help them crisp up when fried.

Frying

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil reaches the right temperature for frying.

  2. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels. This step is crucial to avoid splattering when frying.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of the dried potato strips to the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 4-6 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  4. 6

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. While still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and paprika to taste.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve Hot

Transfer the fries to a serving platter and serve immediately while they are hot and crispy.
