Prepare the Patties

Mix Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well until all the spices are evenly distributed throughout the meat.

Form Patties
Divide the meat mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties, about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent them from puffing up while cooking.

Cook the Patties
Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 4-5 minutes on the other side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). If using cheese, add a slice on top of each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.

While the patties are cooking, wash and slice the tomato and red onion into thin slices.

Wash and dry the lettuce leaves.
