Method

Preparation of Carne Asada

  1. 1

    Marinate the Steak

In a large bowl, combine olive oil, lime juice, minced garlic, cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Add the flank steak and ensure it is well coated with the marinade. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or overnight for best results.

  2. 2

    Preheat the Grill

Preheat your grill to high heat. Once hot, oil the grates to prevent sticking.

  3. 3

    Grill the Steak

Remove the steak from the marinade and place it on the grill. Cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness is achieved. Remove from the grill and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

  4. 4

    Garnish

Slice the steak against the grain and sprinkle with fresh chopped cilantro.

Cooking the Rice

  1. 5

    Rinse the Rice

Rinse the long-grain white rice under cold water until the water runs clear.

  2. 6

    Cook the Rice

In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, water, and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18-20 minutes or until the water is absorbed. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes.

Preparing the Beans

  1. 7

    Sauté the Aromatics

In a medium skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.

  2. 8

    Cook the Beans

Add the canned black beans (drained and rinsed), cumin, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir to combine and cook for about 5-7 minutes until heated through.
