Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Place 2 cups of long-grain white rice in a fine-mesh strainer or bowl. Rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear, about 2-3 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming gummy.

  2. 2

    Measure Water

In a medium-sized pot, measure 4 cups of water. Add 1 teaspoon of salt to the water to enhance the flavor of the rice.

  3. 3

    Boil Water

Bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat. Make sure to watch the pot to prevent it from boiling over.

  4. 4

    Add Rice

Once the water is boiling, carefully add the rinsed rice to the pot. Stir once to separate any clumps of rice.

  5. 5

    Simmer Rice

Reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid. Let the rice simmer for 18-20 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed. Avoid lifting the lid during cooking.

  6. 6

    Fluff and Serve

After the cooking time is up, remove the pot from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes. Then, use a fork to fluff the rice gently. Serve warm.
