Preparation
- 1
Peel and Chop Sweet Potatoes
Start by peeling the sweet potatoes with a vegetable peeler. Once peeled, chop them into evenly sized cubes (about 1-2 inches). This will help them cook evenly.
- 2
Boil Sweet Potatoes
Place the chopped sweet potatoes in a large pot and cover them with water. Bring the water to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and let them cook for about 15-20 minutes or until they are fork-tender.
Mashing
- 3
Drain and Transfer
Once the sweet potatoes are tender, carefully drain the water and transfer them back to the pot.
- 4
Add Butter and Milk
Add the butter and milk to the pot with the sweet potatoes. The heat from the potatoes will help melt the butter.
- 5
Mash the Sweet Potatoes
Using a potato masher or a fork, mash the sweet potatoes until they are smooth and creamy. If you prefer a chunkier texture, mash them less.
Seasoning
- 6
Season to Taste
Sprinkle in the salt, pepper, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix well to combine all the flavors. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
Serving
- 7
Serve Warm
Scoop the mashed sweet potatoes into a serving dish and serve warm. Enjoy your delicious mashed sweet potatoes!
