Preparation
- 1
Peel and Cut Sweet Potatoes
Peel the sweet potatoes using a vegetable peeler. Cut them into evenly sized chunks, approximately 1-2 inches in size, to ensure they cook evenly.
- 2
Boil Sweet Potatoes
Place the cut sweet potatoes in a large pot and cover them with water. Add 1 teaspoon of salt to the water. Bring the water to a boil over high heat, then reduce to medium-high and let simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the sweet potatoes are fork-tender.
Mashing
- 3
Drain and Mash
Once the sweet potatoes are tender, drain them in a colander. Return the drained sweet potatoes to the pot. Use a potato masher or a fork to mash the sweet potatoes until smooth and creamy.
- 4
Add Butter and Milk
While mashing, add the 1 cup of butter and the 0.5 cup of milk to the sweet potatoes. Continue to mash until well combined and creamy. Adjust the consistency with more milk if desired.
- 5
Season the Mashed Sweet Potatoes
Add 0.5 teaspoon of black pepper, 1 teaspoon of salt, 0.25 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and 0.25 teaspoon of nutmeg. Mix well to incorporate the seasonings into the mash.
Serving
- 6
Serve Warm
Transfer the mashed sweet potatoes to a large serving bowl. You can garnish with additional butter or a sprinkle of cinnamon if desired. Serve warm.
