Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil the Water

In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Cook the Macaroni

Add the elbow macaroni to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain the Pasta

Once cooked, drain the macaroni in a colander and set aside.

Making Cheese Sauce

  1. 4

    Melt the Butter

In the same pot used for the pasta, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Add Flour

Once the butter is melted, whisk in 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and cook for about 1 minute to create a roux.

  3. 6

    Add Milk

Slowly pour in 2 cups of milk while whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Continue to cook until the mixture thickens, about 3-5 minutes.

  4. 7

    Add Cheese and Seasoning

Remove the pot from heat and stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.

Combining

  1. 8

    Mix Pasta and Cheese Sauce

Add the drained macaroni back into the pot with the cheese sauce and stir until the pasta is well coated.

  2. 9

    Serve

Serve the mac and cheese warm. Enjoy your delicious kids' mac and cheese!
