Pizza Dough

Method

Making the Dough

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture along with olive oil. Stir until the dough begins to come together.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let it Rise

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Assembling the Pizza

  1. 5

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) during the last 10 minutes of the dough rising.

  2. 6

    Shape the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a 12-inch circle or press it into a pizza pan.

  3. 7

    Add Sauce and Cheese

Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the pizza base. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce, and add oregano and black pepper.

  4. 8

    Bake the Pizza

Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for about 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

  5. 9

    Garnish

Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a couple of minutes. If desired, sprinkle fresh basil on top before slicing.
