Toppings

Method

Waffles

  1. 1

    Prepare the Waffle Batter

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt until well combined.

  2. 2

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, vanilla extract, and melted butter until smooth.

  3. 3

    Mix the Batter

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.

  4. 4

    Cook the Waffles

Preheat your waffle maker according to the manufacturer's instructions. Pour the batter into the waffle maker and cook until golden brown. Repeat with the remaining batter.

Fried Chicken

  1. 5

    Marinate the Chicken

In a large bowl, soak the chicken thighs in buttermilk for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.

  2. 6

    Prepare the Flour Mixture

In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 7

    Dredge the Chicken

Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge thoroughly in the flour mixture, coating all sides.

  4. 8

    Fry the Chicken

In a large pot or deep skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the chicken pieces and fry until golden brown and cooked through (about 10-12 minutes per side). Drain on paper towels.

Garlic Butter

  1. 9

    Make the Garlic Butter

In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in chopped parsley.

Assemble the Dish

  1. 10

    Plate the Waffles and Chicken

On a plate, stack a waffle and top it with a piece of fried chicken. Drizzle with garlic butter and maple syrup, and dust with powdered sugar.
