Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs and then add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until fully combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water to the batter until smooth. The batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove from the oven and allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Fudge Frosting Preparation

  1. 8

    Prepare the Frosting

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Stir in the cocoa powder until smooth.

  2. 9

    Combine with Sugar and Milk

Remove from heat and gradually whisk in the powdered sugar and milk until you achieve a smooth and spreadable frosting. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  3. 10

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
