Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth and well mixed.

  6. 6

    Bake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 8

    Melt Butter

In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter.

  2. 9

    Mix Frosting Ingredients

Remove from heat and whisk in the cocoa powder and heavy cream until well combined.

  3. 10

    Add Sugar and Vanilla

Gradually add the powdered sugar, whisking until smooth, then stir in the vanilla extract.

  4. 11

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate, spread frosting on top, then layer the second cake and frost the top and sides as desired.
