Tamale Ingredients
Method
Preparation Steps
- 1
Prepare Corn Husks
Soak the dried corn husks in warm water for about 30 minutes to soften them. Drain and set aside.
- 2
Make the Masa Dough
In a large bowl, combine corn masa flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, mix vegetable oil and chicken broth. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- 3
Assemble the Tamales
Take a corn husk and spread about 1/4 cup of masa dough onto the center of the husk. Add a spoonful of shredded chicken on top of the dough. Fold the sides of the husk over the filling, then fold up the bottom to secure it. Repeat this process with the remaining husks and filling.
- 4
Cook the Tamales
Place a steamer basket in a large pot filled with water. Arrange the tamales upright in the steamer, making sure they are tightly packed. Cover with a damp cloth and steam for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the masa pulls away easily from the husk.
- 5
Serve
Once cooked, remove the tamales from the steamer and let them cool slightly. Serve warm with salsa verde on the side.
