Method
Preparation
- 1
Rinse the Rice
Begin by rinsing the long-grain white rice under cold water to remove excess starch. This helps prevent the rice from becoming sticky.
- 2
Boil the Water
In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add 0.5 tsp of salt to the water for flavor.
- 3
Add Rice
Once the water is boiling, add the rinsed rice to the saucepan. Stir briefly to separate any clumps.
- 4
Simmer
Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a lid, and let the rice simmer for about 18-20 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed.
- 5
Fluff and Serve
Once the rice is cooked, remove the saucepan from heat. Let it sit for 5 minutes with the lid on, then fluff the rice with a fork. If desired, stir in 1 tablespoon of butter before serving.
