Carnitas Ingredients

Method

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pork

Cut the pork shoulder into large chunks and season it with salt, black pepper, cumin, and chili powder. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat a little oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until fragrant and translucent, about 5 minutes.

  3. 3

    Cook the Pork

Add the seasoned pork to the pot, along with the orange juice, lime juice, beer, and bay leaves. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 2-3 hours until the pork is tender and easily shredded.

  4. 4

    Shred the Pork

Once cooked, remove the pork from the pot and shred it with two forks. Discard the bay leaves.

  5. 5

    Crisp Up the Carnitas

For extra flavor and texture, spread the shredded pork on a baking sheet and broil in the oven for 5-10 minutes until the edges are crispy.

  6. 6

    Serve

Garnish the carnitas with fresh cilantro and serve with tortillas, salsa, and your favorite toppings.
