Method
Prepare the Caramel
- 1
Make the Caramel Sauce
In a small saucepan, combine 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar and 2 tablespoons of water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves.
- 2
Cook Until Golden
Continue cooking without stirring until the mixture turns a golden caramel color. Be careful not to burn it.
- 3
Coat the Flan Mold
Immediately pour the caramel into the bottom of a round 9-inch flan mold or baking dish, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.
Prepare the Flan Base
- 4
Beat the Eggs
In a mixing bowl, beat 4 large eggs until well blended.
- 5
- 6
Pour Mixture Into Mold
Carefully pour the flan mixture over the hardened caramel in the mold.
Bake the Flan
- 7
Prepare the Water Bath
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the flan mold in a larger baking dish. Fill the larger dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan mold.
- 8
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes or until the flan is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 9
Cool and Chill
Remove the flan from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature. Then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
Serve
- 10
Unmold the Flan
To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan mold to loosen it. Invert the mold onto a serving plate, allowing the caramel to drizzle over the flan.
- 11
Slice and Enjoy
Slice the flan into wedges and serve chilled. Enjoy your creamy caramel custard dessert!
